Lauren Elizabeth Cates is an Associate in the firm's Miami office. She practices in the areas of general civil litigation, insurance defense litigation, premises liability, security negligence, trucking accident defense, and vehicle negligence.
Ms. Cates was born and raised in Pensacola, FL. Prior to attending law school, she worked as a Mass Torts Project Leader and Trial Paralegal, assisting with thousands of product liability cases and leading the support team in two federal multi-district litigation trials. While working as a Paralegal, she received an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts from Pensacola State College, and received a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies with a minor in English Writing, summa cum laude, from the University of West Florida. Subsequently, she earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Florida Fredric G. Levin College of Law.
During law school, Ms. Cates earned the book award for Trial Advocacy and was an active member of the Florida Trial Team, where she was recognized as a Top Advocate and regional runner-up in the Southeastern Conference of the National Trial Competition. As a law student, she also became a certified Guardian ad Litem and participated in the Gator TeamChild Juvenile Law Clinic, which provides free legal services to children in Florida’s foster care system. She also gained practical experience during her internship with a first party property insurance firm and as a Law Clerk at Cole, Scott & Kissane.
