Florida Firms Post Solid Revenue Gains Amid Modest Headcount Growth

Florida’s top law firms continued their upward financial trajectory in fiscal year 2024, reporting healthy gains in revenue and profitability, even as attorney headcounts grew modestly—or in some cases shrank.

Cole, Scott & Kissane, a firm that focuses primarily on insurance defense and that employs more Florida attorneys than any other law firm—grew their gross revenue significantly in 2024 compared to 2023, bringing in $280 million last year.

"At the crux of our organic growth into Florida's largest firm is our willingness, ability and expertise to try cases," said Steven Hicks-Safra, general counsel of Cole, Scott & Kissane. "That has garnered a reputation among clients, other attorneys, opposing counsel and the judiciary where, when CSK is involved in a case, it is known that we are willing to try cases. This helps achieve highly effective results for our clients at an appropriate cost."

While headcount growth for the firm has recently been somewhat modest, Cole, Scott & Kissane ramped up its hiring in the midst of and after the pandemic, growing by 154 lawyers from January 2021 through January 2023, and Hicks-Safra said the firm is now seeing the revenue gains of that investment.
