Joseph T. Kissane is a partner in the Jacksonville office. He handles an active litigation practice in the areas of personal injury, insurance bad faith, negligent security, insurance coverage, professional malpractice trucking accident defense and fraud claims. He has experience handling Errors and Omissions claims, including those brought against insurance brokers and agents.

Mr. Kissane has exclusively represented the interests of insurance carriers and their insureds throughout his entire law career. He also has extensive commercial litigation experience. He is an active participant in the firm's SIU Fraud Division representing carriers by bringing affirmative complaints and counterclaims on their behalf.

In Jacksonville Magazine’s April 2010 issue, Mr. Kissane was selected as one of Jacksonville’s Best Lawyers (“250 named tops by peers and those considered experts”). He was only 1 of 5 top insurance defense lawyers so designated. Mr. Kissane was also named in 2010, 2017, 2018 and 2020-2022 to the prestigious publication “The Best Lawyers in America” and as a Florida Super Lawyer by Super Lawyer Magazine (2011).

In 2006-2014; 2016-2022, Mr. Kissane was named as a “Super Lawyer” by Florida Super Lawyers magazine. He holds the AV Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, its highest ranking for ethics and legal ability.

In 2005, Mr. Kissane was acknowledged by Florida Trend magazine in its “Legal Elite” edition as one of the top insurance lawyers in the State of Florida.

Mr. Kissane is the author of the comprehensive Florida Tort and Insurance Survival Guide. He also coordinates the firm’s annual “Bad Faith Boot Camp” which is a full day seminar designed to educate and instruct insurance professionals on the current state of Florida Bad Faith law.

He is a member of the American Bar Association, The Florida Bar, The Jacksonville Bar Association, The Florida Defense Lawyers Association, The Jacksonville Defense Lawyers Association and The International Association of Defense Counsel.

He is a frequent lecturer to insurance companies on issues relating to bad faith prevention and proper claims handling. Mr. Kissane has also written on topics and matters of interest to the defense industry, including bad faith prevention, extra-contractual exposure, successfully defending a fraudulent claim, Florida Statute 624.155, and other current issues of interest to insurance carriers.  Mr. Kissane’s presentations include, “Litigating the ‘Bad Faith’ Claim,” at “The Insurance Services Symposium: Creative Management of Claims and Coverage Disputes in a High-Risk Environment,” in Chicago, Illinois.

In addition, reflecting his trial experience, Mr. Kissane has made presentations on how a defendant can act as a catalyst to move cases forward expeditiously.

Mr. Kissane attended the University of Miami School of Law J.D. 1985 cum laude, member Dean’s List, Top 10% of Class; University of Miami B.A.1982 cum laude Member, President’s Honor Roll, Dean’s List, Golden Key National Honor Society.
