Overview

Gene P. Kissane is a partner in the firm’s Miami and Key West offices.  Mr. Kissane is a Martindale-Hubbell AV-rated Preeminent attorney. He practices personal injury litigation, transportation litigation, negligent security litigation, premises liability litigation and professional liability litigation, including legal malpractice, medical malpractice and nursing home litigation. He has experience handling Errors and Omissions claims, including those brought against insurance brokers and agents. He is an active participant in the firm’s SIU Fraud Division representing carriers by bringing affirmative complaints and counterclaims on their behalf.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from The University of Miami and a Juris Doctorate from The University of Miami School of Law.  Honors and distinctions he received while in college and law school included the Golden Key National Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Who’s Who Among American College and University Students, Phi Alpha Delta Legal Society, and received two American Jurisprudence Book Awards.

Mr. Kissane is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the three U.S. District Courts of Florida. He is also admitted to the Supreme Court of Florida and all courts within the States of Florida and Tennessee.

Mr. Kissane also served as a Federal Judicial Law Clerk for United States District Judge Thomas E. Scott of the Southern District of Florida after graduating from Law School.  He is a co-author of a section of the Federal Evidence Practice Guide, published by Matthew Bender Publishing Co.  He was previously Chairman of the Insurance Committee of the Dade County Bar Association; Member, The Council On Litigation Management; Member of the Judicial Nominating Committee for the State of Florida; the Civil Justice Advisory Group Committee, the Federal Judicial Bar; and Community Liaison Committee and Member – Transportation Industry Defense Association (TIDA).   Mr. Kissane has been a guest lecturer on multiple topics throughout the country and has been an invited guest speaker in the Old Library at Lloyd’s of London presenting on avoidance of bad faith.  He has been named on multiple occasions as a Top Lawyer by Florida Trend Magazine; named as Florida Super Lawyer by Super Lawyer Magazine (restricted to 5% of Florida attorneys) (2006-2023); multiple years named as a Top Lawyer by South Florida Legal Guide; selected on multiple years as one of the top 1.7% of Civil Trial Lawyers in the State of Florida by Florida Trend Magazine; included in the 21st, 22nd, 23rd , 27th, 28th and 30th Editions of The Best Lawyers in America in the practice areas of Insurance Law, Personal Injury Litigation, and Professional Malpractice Law – Defendants; Who’s Who in America (2019); America’s Top 100 Personal Injury Attorneys (2019); Lawyers of Distinction (2020) and named Americas Most Honored Lawyers Top 1% by The American Registry (2022).
