Governor Vetoes PIP Repeal Legislation

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has vetoed Senate Bill 54. This legislation would have repealed Florida’s Motor Vehicle No-Fault Law, which requires drivers to carry Personal Injury Protection (”PIP”) coverage, and would instead have required drivers to carry mandatory Bodily Injury (“BI”) coverage. The legislation also purported to provide what was characterized as Bad Faith reform. Most insurance carriers had opposed the Bill and the insurance industry had advocated for its veto.
