Melinda S. Thornton is a Partner in the firm’s appellate group. Ms. Thornton joined the firm after practicing with the Miami-Dade County Attorney’s Office. While with the County, she represented numerous County departments, including the Public Health Trust as in-house counsel, and the offices of Miami-Dade’s Property Appraiser and Tax Collector. She has extensive experience in local government law, and specialized in the areas of hospital law, ad valorem taxation, bankruptcy and appellate law.
Ms. Thornton is an alumna of the University of Miami, where she received three degrees. She earned an undergraduate degree in Mass Communications and a graduate degree in College Student Personnel Services. During her attendance at the School of Law, she was a member of the Law Review Editorial Board and served as Chairperson of the Moot Court Board.
Ms. Thornton has litigated at the trial and appellate levels in state and federal court, appearing in jurisdictions throughout the country. She has been recognized in Florida Trend’s Florida Legal Elite (Government and Non-Profit) and as a Top Government Attorney in the South Florida Legal Guide.
